One of our primary directives is to provide clothing to those in need. While there are several wonderful organizations that providing clothing, our guests seem to have a voracious appetite for one more pair of socks, clean underwear, or bra.
In the last few months, we’ve received a lot of clothing — thanks to so many who have contributed! We’re in the process of converting the office into our clothing area. Here are a few pics of shelves we installed today.
They are bare now, but they’ll be filled this coming week as Julie Huber and crew sort, clean, and organize!
Consistent Needs
As I alluded to in the beginning, we are in constant need of some items every week. Without even looking in the bins, I can tell you we need men’s boxer briefs (mostly medium & large), socks, and bras. My wife’s the expert on bras, as you might imagine, but as a father of four daughters, I have some understanding of this ridiculously expensive clothing item. Zoë’s request from her circles is simple: “ladies, look in your drawer for that bra that you just don’t wear…you know which one I mean…wash it one more time and drop it off!”
We are certainly blessed by many and are filled with joy to provide the right size of the right clothing item to someone. It may not seem like much, but I can only imagine what it’s like to put on clean underwear after sleeping on the streets, on someone’s couch, or in a tent in a backyard. I’m not trying to stir your emotions, rather, I’m just pointing out the harsh reality that our friends are dealing with.
Many thanks to those of you who have donated to our mission. We hope these items of clothing help us build relationships with people as we sincerely pray for ways to lead them to Christ and onto a better path. All for the glory of Christ.
You know that we love and support the work that you are doing in our community! Always feel free to reach out to the Discovery Center for any specific size of clothing needs that you may not have on your shelves. If we have it, we will share it! It’s all about Kingdom – working together to make our community better and safer for everyone!
Thanks, Denise! We appreciate your continued support and look forward to serving together in any capacity! We’ll definitely contact you when we have specific needs. We are much better together!!
