Every first Friday of the month, HOPE Missions of the Upstate and supporting agencies such as Asher House, Foothills Community Health Care, Anderson Free Clinic, and Alston Wilkes Society collaborate with The LOT Project for a special community program we call First Friday! This is a time for the community to receive shoes, outerwear, breakfast, haircuts, and information on resources in the area. September 2024 Distribution September’s First Friday was […]
Last week, we had the immense pleasure of hosting a special appreciation dinner at the Hospice of the Upstate to honor our incredible donors, volunteers, and resource partners. With over 70 wonderful people in attendance, the atmosphere was filled with gratitude and joy as we celebrated the contributions that make HOPE Missions possible. Honoring Our Volunteers At the heart of the evening, was the recognition of two extraordinary volunteers who […]
HOPE Missions would like to extend our sincere gratitude for being able to provide a safe and secure building during Hurricane Helene. Your support allowed us to serve 137 individuals on Friday morning, ensuring their safety during the storm’s peak. We were also able to accommodate 47 guests overnight, most of whom utilized cots set up throughout the facility. Our operation ran smoothly thanks to the dedication of nine volunteers […]
HOPE Missions of the Upstate is more than just a nonprofit; it is a ministry built on the foundation of Christ’s love. The organization relies on the hands and hearts of volunteers who serve not out of obligation, but as an expression of their faith. Each act of kindness is an opportunity to share the Gospel and remind individuals that they are loved and valued by Jesus Christ. Over the […]
We are incredibly blessed by the presence of the volunteer servants who embrace our mission of service and compassion. We are honored to shine a spotlight on Mallie Wheeler, a humble soul with a heart full of service. From her very first day, Mallie fit right in, seamlessly embracing our purpose and mission. Every week, Mallie faithfully serves breakfast to our guests with a sweet smile that brings warmth and […]
After years of serving those in deep need in our community, I’m beginning to learn how far from Christ I have drifted and how blind I was to pain and suffering right before my eyes. Even with perfect physical vision and hearing, we cannot see that which we choose not to see. We cannot hear if we do not listen. And we cannot love our neighbors, our brothers and sisters, […]
We serve a God who cares so much for His creation that He sent Jesus to walk amongst us. Throughout scripture, we are reminded to care for those who are oppressed — those who are poor, orphans, widows, fatherless, and foreigners. Jesus fulfilled Isaiah’s prophecy (see Luke 4:16-21): The Spirit of the Lord is on me,because he has anointed meto proclaim good news to the poor.He has sent me to […]
We’ve made some changes to our Wishlist process. Instead of one long list that seems intimidating for our friends, we now have two lists: Immediate Top Needs These are items that we need to purchase for our operations now. Many of our friends want to buy things for us, so the shortlist includes underwear, coffee, and bowls for grits!! The cost of items listed here ranges from about $8 for […]
Enable: 1) To give someone or something the authority or means to do something; 2) To make (a device or system, or let me offer…person) operational; activate In the recovery world and often in the world of people experiencing homelessness, the word “enable” has taken on a negative connotation. Recovery experts tell us that we should not “enable” our addict to continue in his/her addiction. They aren’t wrong. Many well-meaning […]
Years ago, during our time serving in the Air Force, we were stationed at RAF Alconbury in England. One of our goals was to use the weekends to explore ancient monuments, ruins, and especially castles like Warwick Castle or the infamous Leeds Castle. The visits with our young children were fascinating. We learned about England’s medieval history, about knights, kings, queens, and royal families. We walked in dungeons that reminded […]
