“Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” – Matthew 25:40
As we reflect on the month of November, we are reminded of God’s call to love and serve others as an expression of our faith. The Lord blessed us with opportunities to live out His teachings, providing for the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of those who came to HOPE Missions this November!
In November, 466 unique individuals sought care at HOPE Missions, each one a child of God deserving of love and dignity. Among them were 152 women and 314 men, averaging 129 individuals each day. On our busiest day, we served 152 people, and throughout the month, we extended Christ’s love through 3,259 acts of service over 27 days of operation.
Our warming center, guided by the Lord’s provision, opened five times this month to shelter 86 individuals, providing 194 safe, warm beds. Special thanks to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, whose generosity in replacing our cots reminds us of Christ’s command to care for the weary and burdened.
Teaching and Supporting
In line with Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it,” HOPE Missions hosted 15 classes in November. These sessions provided both practical life skills and the tools to achieve self-sufficiency, reflecting God’s desire for His children to flourish. Topics included:
- Flu prevention and education, reminding us that caring for our health honors the temple of the Holy Spirit
- Connecting participants to benefits and services, reflecting God’s provision through community resource partners
- Employment support and life skills training, helping individuals discover their God-given potential. A big thank you to Truist Bank, Regions Bank, Goodwill Mission Mobile, and SCWorks
Health, Healing, and God’s Grace
The ministry of healing was central to Jesus’ work, and we strive to follow His example. In November, we provided:
- 324 over-the-counter medication doses and 74 diabetic snack packs, meeting immediate physical needs
- Financial support for 61 prescriptions and helped a participant connect with Welvista for mail-order medication
- Access to 191 mental health services, ensuring hope and healing for troubled hearts and minds
Through partnerships with New Horizon’s Family Health Services, the mobile medical unit and the SCDMH coordinator, we addressed both physical and mental health needs, knowing that God cares for the whole person.
Restoring Stability
HOPE Missions acts as a refuge for those experiencing instability, reflecting Christ’s call to care for the marginalized. This month, we:
- Processed mail for 104 individuals, with 148 more receiving mail soon, ensuring they could stay connected to essential services
- Provided secure storage for 58 individuals, allowing them to safeguard documents, clothing, and belongings that represent steps toward rebuilding their lives
