HOPE Missions would like to extend our sincere gratitude for being able to provide a safe and secure building during Hurricane Helene. Your support allowed us to serve 137 individuals on Friday morning, ensuring their safety during the storm’s peak. We were also able to accommodate 47 guests overnight, most of whom utilized cots set up throughout the facility. Our operation ran smoothly thanks to the dedication of nine volunteers who worked in shifts throughout the night.

We would like to acknowledge Zoë and our team of Anderson University interns, who transformed the space on Thursday morning by setting up cots and preparing for our guests arrival. Additionally, Marlando and his team, including our SCSEP (SC Senior Employment Program) employees, arrived at 5:30 AM to prepare breakfast and provide vital supervision.

As the storm intensified, the power went out, but our generator activated seamlessly, demonstrating remarkable efficiency. We had just informed everyone to be patient in case of a power outage, so the quick response was truly impressive. We would like to extend a special thanks to Brian Richardson (Facilities Manager for Anderson County) for coordinating with his team before the storm and for ensuring the generator functioned properly.

By noon the following day, many of our guests were able to leave, as they are accustomed to enduring power outages. We were particularly blessed when Julie secured a load of sandwiches from Second Harvest, allowing us to provide lunch for our departing guests.

HOPE Missions is immensely grateful for the opportunity to operate out of your space, which played a crucial role in our efforts to support the community during this challenging time.

In Christ,

HOPE Missions
