HOPE Missions of the Upstate is more than just a nonprofit; it is a ministry built on the foundation of Christ’s love. The organization relies on the hands and hearts of volunteers who serve not out of obligation, but as an expression of their faith. Each act of kindness is an opportunity to share the Gospel and remind individuals that they are loved and valued by Jesus Christ.
Over the past month, we had an outstanding 3,143 check-ins from 462 guests. Our committed volunteers and staff delivered 14,153 services, offering guidance and support to our guests as they navigate through critical areas such as housing, healthcare, and transportation.
A Morning of Nourishment and Fellowship
“For I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat…” (Matthew 25:35)
Each morning, HOPE Missions opens its doors to serve breakfast to our guests, offering both nourishment for the body and encouragement for the soul. This daily act of service is an opportunity to share the love of Christ with those who may feel forgotten. Our volunteers, many of whom see this as part of their calling, greet each person with kindness, offering not just food and a hot cup of joe, but also a moment of fellowship. In every plate served, there’s a reminder of God’s provision.
These volunteers played a crucial role in preparing meals, serving food, cleaning, and providing hands-on assistance to our guests to ensure that our operations ran smoothly. Their selfless contributions not only helped meet the immediate needs of our community but also created an environment of care and compassion, reflecting the true spirit of service that drives our organization.

Providing Shelter: A Reflection of God’s Grace

Stable housing is critical to helping individuals escape the cycle of homelessness. Through our housing services, we help our community in their journey to obtain housing by offering hope. Guided by a belief in the inherent worth of every individual, we help people find both temporary shelter and long-term housing solutions. This month, HOPE Missions provided several critical housing services aimed at supporting individuals and families in need. These housing services not only address immediate needs but also contribute to the long-term well-being of our community by fostering stability and offering support during times of transition and uncertainty.
Transportation Services: A Bridge to Opportunity and Care
“He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” (Luke 10:27)
This past month, HOPE Missions has helped 48 with transportation services. Transportation can often be a barrier to accessing vital services, employment, and medical care, especially for those experiencing homelessness. In response, HOPE Missions provides transportation services to ensure individuals can get to important appointments and job interviews. This is not just a logistical service, it’s a ministry in motion. Every ride offered represents a step toward renewal, a chance for someone to access life-changing opportunities that can help lift them out of poverty.
A special thank you to Grace Episcopal Church for their monthly donation of 500 Electric City Transit Bus Tickets! Their support has provided vital transportation assistance, enabling individuals to travel to essential services such as medical appointments, job interviews, and housing searches.
Health and Vision Care: Healing in Christ’s Name
Health is foundational to overall well-being, yet many homeless individuals suffer from untreated medical conditions. HOPE Missions provides free health and vision care, ensuring that those in need receive the attention they deserve. These services are offered as part of our Christ-centered approach to healing both body, mind, and soul. Every medical check-up and vision screening is an extension of Christ’s healing ministry, where the goal is not just physical healing but also spiritual renewal. As the great physician, Jesus cared deeply for the sick, and HOPE Missions along with our resource partners with Servants for Sight, and New Horizon Family Medical Services are committed to ensuring that the homeless community receives the necessary support to address their health needs. We strive to provide access to medical care, vision care, and wellness resources, promoting overall well-being and improving quality of life for those we serve.
We also would like to thank our wonderful donors who continue to bless our ministry with supplies needed to provide all our services. Big thank you to Concord Baptist Church for donating 160 Hygiene bags!
Lunch and Learns: Building Skills and Stewarding Resources
“Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings.” (Proverbs 22:29)
While providing for immediate needs is essential, HOPE Missions also seeks to equip individuals for long-term success. Through partnerships with Goodwill Mobile Missions and SC Works, we have helped 27 this September in their journey to obtain employment as well as 43 with Life skills education.
Regions Bank and Truist Bank partnered with us to empower our guests by providing valuable financial literacy education through dedicated Lunch and Learn workshops. Their teams of financial experts conducted interactive sessions, covering essential topics such as budgeting, saving, and managing credit. This will empower individuals to take control of their futures, by equipping people with skills and knowledge they can use to fulfill God’s purpose for their lives.
We debuted a cooking class that empowers homeless individuals by teaching essential nutrition literacy and cooking skills, enabling them to prepare healthy meals for themselves. Through hands-on instruction and support, participants gain confidence and a sense of community while fostering healthier lifestyles.
This month, Brenda Walker led a Bible study providing a welcoming space for the homeless community to explore faith and build connections in Christ. Through shared scripture and support, participants find hope and a deeper relationship with Jesus, fostering a sense of belonging and purpose. Next month, Steve Eudy will be leading the October Bible study!
